About the Home

Before taking the virtual tour, learn more about this project from Gaspar’s Owner/General Manager Sarah Henry.

This couple bought their first home with a lot of vision. It was an original 1950s home throughout. The kitchen had the original Pepto Bismol pink tile, plywood cabinets, and peeling linoleum floor. Even more troublesome was the original electrical which had become unsafe. The kitchen was U-shaped and not wide enough to have useable corners or fit a dishwasher. The refrigerator kept the garage door from opening past 90 degrees and cut off the kitchen from the seating area. The windows were original and had failed.

The solution was to eliminate the sink cabinet at the end and create two parallel runs of cabinets.

We also relocated the refrigerator to be recessed into an unneeded hallway, creating a more open kitchen. The windows were replaced with new ones that operated easily, providing additional ventilation. With new wood flooring to match the rest of the main floor and new, improved cabinets, this kitchen works perfectly for living and entertaining.

The only bathroom upstairs had plumbing issues and the tub/shower could not be used. There was no countertop or storage space, and everything was falling apart, so it never felt clean.

In the bathroom we changed the doorway to be from the primary bedroom instead of the hallway, with a future project in mind to add a second bathroom upstairs. We moved the toilet and sink to accommodate this and then got to work with all new finishes. The homeowners didn’t want to have a mirror behind the vanity, so the medicine cabinet has a mirror mounted inside the door for use when desired. There is also a cubby for extra storage to the right of the tub as well as above the shower shelves to make the most of every inch in this small bathroom.

This was a fun project with homeowners who were not afraid of color and wanted to let their personalities show in their home. Some examples of this are the wooden cabinet pulls in the kitchen, not having a mirror behind the vanity, and the fun green grout in the shower.
