This charming 1916 Craftsman was reconfigured to increase the footprint via a redesigned kitchen and new, open living room. To create an open concept the fireplace and chimney were removed from the living room and the stairs to the basement were rerouted around the kitchen. A partial pony wall between the staircase and dining further opened the space.
The kitchen was expanded from an L-shape to a U-shape giving the family twice the number of cabinets, with a pantry for extra storage, and built-in bench seating for eat-in kitchen dining. To gain additional interior space the original front porch and a side entry were enclosed to create a foyer with a closet, and a functional mud room with built-ins and cubbies. To tie the rooms together new hardware floors were installed throughout the main floor.

This darling 1905 Capitol Hill home has a lot of charm. To complete its look, the kitchen, dining room, and adjacent powder room have been modernized. A new kitchen design and expanded powder room increase the homeowner’s storage space and functionality.
The kitchen shines with honey maple cabinetry and Cambria quartz countertops, along with a gas cooktop, built-in double oven, and mosaic tile backsplash, all set to the backdrop of under-cabinet lighting and marmoleum flooring. This 1926 home had seen a lot of different eras and remodels over the years. Our homeowners wanted to bring some of the original charm back to the kitchen and living spaces while also adding modern conveniences. The charm part is addressed with crown molding, beautiful tile, light fixtures, a farmhouse sink and Shaker-style cabinets. Modern conveniences include removing two walls to create a larger kitchen, as well as to create connection between the kitchen and the rest of the living space. A new range hood is flush with the ceiling so that it doesn’t block sight lines in the kitchen. Finally, we converted the wood-burning fireplace to a modern gas fireplace.

This 1951 midcentury contemporary kitchen was updated by opening up the walls, relocating a doorway, and reducing south-facing window heights to regain territorial mountain views. Like most kitchens built in 1968, this one was closed off, making it a prime candidate for remodeling. Focusing on a brighter, better ventilated kitchen, the dream of taking down the wall between the kitchen and adjacent rooms allowed the homeowners to add an island and cozy eating area, creating a more functional space. Dark wood flooring, new cabinets, countertops, a new range, and a modern sink with glass tile backsplash completed the transformation.
